For those I often play the most (smart science techniques), those who choose to pull regularly, I will often win the best match in 3 games with avalanche coming down the slope.
Playing the stats alone is playing to lose. The following must be considered to even start answering questions (not necessarily in order):
1. Gender of the opponent
2. Bring / stand the opponent's stance
3. Bring your own stance
4. Past history of the opponent
5. Your past history
6. Any verbal signal given by the opponent
7. The opponent is a rookie or a more experienced player.
The following sequence will help you gain most of the time against unprofessional people (and some other advantages).
1. Paper
2. Stone
3. Pull

As many people mentioned, most opponents will throw stones or paper in advance. So paper is the way to go. The next move they play will be an attempt to defeat the last move you played. So if you follow my order, you will be unbeatable compared to the average player.
