Rap is a direct descendant of rock and roll. It grew directly out of the We are quaranteachers we roll with it shirt soul and funk and traces the influences of early rockers like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. It may not be part of “rock music” as defined by radio, but it is closer to the roots of rock and roll than much of the music that it is. So it is rock and roll.
