The point is, your stepfather can't legally adopt you unless your biological father agrees to terminate his parental rights. Do you think he would agree? If you're scared to say this to him, it doesn't sound like you think he'll be able to take it. I recommend discussing it with your mother. She is probably best positioned to know how both of these men will feel and react. If it doesn't work - get creative. Maybe instead of asking him to adopt you, you could offer to 'adopt' him. Make a certificate that from this date you officially recognize him as the father of your heart. At the end of the day, legality doesn't mean as much as sentiments and intentions. That you love him and care about him and treat him like your dad is probably more than enough of a gift.
