What animal and plants did the Vikings farm?

Barley were mainly grown for beer brewing, rye for bread and peas, beans, turnips, carrots, kale, onions and herbs for food. Oats were grown for the animals. Wheat was unusual even though it was warmer in the Viking era than today. The barley and rye leftover was used for gruel and porridge.

The animals you had then were about the same as now. Cows were important for their milk. The horse is important as a riding and pulling animal. The cat kept the rats away from the grain they stored. The dog guarded the farm against strangers and followed in the hunt. The pig was good because it ate everything and it was often slaughtered in the middle of winter when the meat could be freezed. Sheep were needed for the wool. Goats were for the meat but also for the goat's milk. The hens gave eggs, though not in winter.

Beekeeping was important to obtain honey for mead production. The Vikings drank mead rather than beer.
