In San Francisco in 1971, 3,000 people joined the march, attracting a crowd of 54,000 supporters. The "Gay Parade ‘73" the following year was organized for a week at the peak of the event "Gay Picnic" in Golden Gate Park.
To date, San Francisco has always been the most anticipated Gay Pride event, likened to America's "gay capital". In 1978, the rainbow flag with eight colors, the gay pride flag appeared at San Francisco Gay Freedom Day.
