Bruce contributed more capital and Hershey Company provided materials and technology to produce. However, when the war ended in 1945, Forrest acquired M & M’s and became the sole owner. Later, when his father died, Forrest ran the family business and merged M & M’s into Mars Inc. There is a story that was told that when Forrest was in England to produce Mars chocolate for the army, he saw a lot of British soldiers eat chocolate wrapped in a hard sugar crust.
