Whay must a good pumpkin pie have raisins in it?

Recipes are not gospel. I personally have never seen a pumpkin pie with raisins, but why not try it? I often add walnuts to my pumpkin pie.

I see questions here where people believe in recipes literally and are afraid that any deviation will cause a kitchen disaster. That is usually not the case. I make pumpkin pie will all sorts of different crusts. I have also used fresh milk, evaporated milk, half and half and cream. Use pecans instead of walnuts. It all depends.
