Lol, we have 4 CNAs to 30 patients. I Hate It When Coworkers Act Like Supervisors Please Act Your Wage Shirt. No one gets 1:1 and everyone on my floor ranges from mild cognitive impairment to full-fledged dementia to completely paralyzed. Some hours we only have 3 CNAs and during the night shift there are 2 and sometimes 1 CNA to 30 patients with one unit helper (they can answer call lights to get the can, make beds but the patients are fucking sleeping in them, and take out trash. Literally nothing else) I can’t wait until I’m a nurse and I can get out of that hell hole. I’ve absolutely seen lazy/mean nurses who refuse to even give a boost with a CNA. I guess I’m lucky that is an anomaly within the culture of my facility. Ugh. I feel for you. Techs and aids don’t get enough recognition or pay. Wow, this sounds like heaven! I’m also med surge oncology but I get 5 patients and the PCAs get 10-12…

They totally do but they don’t want to hear it from me. I Hate It When Coworkers Act Like Supervisors Please Act Your Wage Shirt. When I have an aide starting to get frustrated like that I just totally relieve them of that patient or a nurse who’s acting up I will trade them or aggressively respond first to all the alarms or bells so their negative attitude/energy doesn’t exacerbate the problem. I have a high tolerance for dementia patients though maybe more than most. Still, their attitudes frustrate me. I also thought maybe this was a common thought because I’ve heard so many people say it. Not sure what to do except to physically demonstrate how to treat them and let the coworkers see a gentle approach works more than it doesn’t.

Omg, come to my hospital!! Our CNA’s (are called PCA’s) I Hate It When Coworkers Act Like Supervisors Please Act Your Wage Shirt. And we have 6 patients each and our nurses have 3 and they have to answer the call lights and whatever else the patients need if we’re busy. Come on over, we’d be happy to have you. Also, It’s in oncology and the med surge unit so our patients are very sick and we are very busy doing all that we can to keep them alive. It’s hard but I love being a part of their care. Sheesh. Can’t stand when nurses push everything off onto the can. That’s how it was on my old floor. No teamwork whatsoever. The reason why I left actually. Now, where I work, we’re all answering call lights within the first minute that it’s on. I love it
