As long as Trump is the living embodiment of that wish fulfillment, his base will NEVER turn on him. He is living their fantasy life, their day dream, and they are never, ever going to give that up. But, at the same time, they aren’t going to support any of Trump’s would-be “political heirs”, unless that person also embodies that same wish fulfillment. Sorry, Ted Cruz, you just don’t have the kind of in-your-face extravagance of Donald Trump! Sorry, Josh Hawley, you are too young and good looking; Trump’s base can’t put themselves in your shoes. Sorry, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert! The base stayed for the racism but they came for the fantasy! Sorry, Trump-kids! You can’t claim to be “self-made”! No, Daddy wasn’t either, but he claimed he was and that satisfied that wish fulfillment itch! Sorry, Lindsey! Sorry, Mitch! I know you guys think that you can cater to the base and convince them to keep voting Republican, but these people want “Reality TV”, not reality. Politics bores them, but Trump is the embodiment of everything that they wish they had - and they will be loyal, not exactly to him, but that fantasy of their deepest darkest desires forever. So anyone who steps on that fantasy gets expelled from their circle, thrown off of the island, and banished from the herd. Only those who support the fantasy are allowed in.
