You are not going to lose the bond you have already established with your first dog when the second dog comes into your life unless you ignore the first one. It goes without saying that you will have to work on the relationships with BOTH dogs to ensure that they each feel special to you and in your home. Until recently, I had five little dogs that were poodles or poodle mixes. I lost one due to old age and medical issues a few months ago, but they all got along for years with each other and do with me still. I think my first doggy, Lindy, liked being an only doggy early on. I remember it took her a while to adjust to Liza when she came to live with us. Once adjusted though, the two of them have gotten along fine with each other all these years. After the first two, it was a case of “the more, the merrier!” I have always tried to be sure that each one of them for I have left gets their “me” time with Mama (me) each day so they feel special and loved. They sleep on the bed with me at night and it feels like I have a litter of puppies all snuggled up next to me in bed. You just need to be sure that you continue giving the first furbaby all the attention he/she deserves even after the second one comes into your life and this will help them be more willing to share the love between the three of you…. :)
