No Republican has ever won the presidency without first winning Ohio in the general election.  Everything Buckeye nation the voice of the fans shirt. However, Ohio is well known as a bellwether state and is where all the pollsters go to get an idea of how the country feels, politically. We are the home of American Football. The American Football Hall Of Fame resides in my city of Canton.  Cleveland has a pro football team, pro basketball team, and pro baseball team, but hasn’t seen a championship since the Indians won the World Series in 1948.  The Browns are also the only expansion team to be a continuation of an original team.

What is Ohio best known for?

Which became the Baltimore Ravens.  Of course, Lebron has returned home and is doing well for the Cavs, so this may be the year that breaks the dry spell.  And, let us not forget to mention the perennial favorites, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Cleveland has the dubious distinction as the City Of The Burning River.  The Cuyahoga River caught fire in 1952 due to extremely polluted conditions.  The incident led to the creation of the EPA and environmental regulations but is also memorialized in a local beer.  Ohio has been home to 8 presidents, more than any other state except Virginia.  However, none of ours have been very popular.

Ohio is best known for a lot of things, depending on the time of year and who you talk to.  When I was in the Navy, a lot of guys thought of Ohio as flat and boring, nothing more than a highway stop between the East and West Coasts.  This is unfortunate since it means the Ohio Board of Tourism wasn’t really doing its job.  But, good or bad, there are things everyone has heard about here. Ohio is the easternmost Midwest state. It’s nicknamed the Buckeye state. Columbus is the State Capitol and largest city. It’s home to Nationwide Insurance headquarters, NHL Blue Jackets, Ohio State University and the Buckeyes athletic program (primarily football).

Most of Ohio’s landscape is farmland, while eastern end is the hilly forest (kind of a Pennsylvania feel). Cleveland is the 2nd largest city near Lake Erie. Cleveland has the KeyBank headquarters and it’s the tallest building in Ohio. Rock and roll hall of fame museum, the historical westside market, and the Cleveland Clinic. It’s the hometown of Drew Carey and Desmond Howard. The sports team are the Cavaliers NBA, Indians MLB, and the NFL Browns. Lebron James hometown is Akron. Cincinnati is Ohio’s 3rd largest city on the Ohio River.

Cincinnati airport is across the river in Kentucky called Northern Kentucky Airport. Cincinnati has the NFL Bengals and MLB Reds and it has the University of Cincinnati Xavier University. Ohio Turnpike is the tollway throughout northern Ohio featuring pleasant service plaza with gas stations and truck stops. Sandusky is a tourist townhome to cedar point and Kalahari resort. Kings Island in Mason is another cedar fair park. Ohio is predominantly a Republican state but went democratic for Obama.
